Charles Foster, Mayor, City of Stuart
April 15, 2002
Due to the size of Stuart, the growth of the airport is and will become a major problem for all the citizens and the City. The ejected jet fuel is a pollutant that causes medical problems. Noise pollution problems will cause negative home values. It is hard to believe that the city and county are following the controlled growth of units per acre and height restrictions for residents, while ignoring the tremendous growth of the airport. With only 1/3 capacity in use now with all the jet problems, how can the city and citizens survive a 200% increase in jet traffic? Years ago the FAA forced the City of Stuart to close the land fill on Monterey due to the bird attraction. Consequently the FAA forced the closing of the south/west - north/east runway to make room for a fixed base operation. With this in mind, one would think the FAA, Martin County and the City of Stuart would request the closing of the south/east - north/west runway to protect the residents, It is time the City of Stuart should get involved in the airport expansion to protect their citizens and the entire town from destruction. When one neighborhood is negatively affected, the whole town is affected. Of course more than one neighborhood is affected by this growing problem.
