Michael DiTerlizzi, Chairman
Board of County Commissioners
2401 SE Monterey Rd.
Stuart, FL 34997
September 25, 2003
Dear Commissioner DiTerlizzi,
It is our hope, now that the Airport Exploratory Study has been completed and accepted by the Board of County Commissioners, that you will continue to provide stewardship in guiding the commission forward to begin adopting those measures outlined in the AES by Peter Kirsch which would accomplish downsizing of the Martin County Airport.
Your previous public statements that you are prepared to take action to reduce the impact of the airport (including banning Stage 2 jets, de-federalizing the airport, and eliminating nightly ‘on call services’ as provided by the FBO’s) have been very encouraging to our membership. The AES contains the appropriate legal measures for you to meet your stated goals and begin to provide relief for the surrounding negatively affected communities.
It is our hope that the BCC will initiate action on these measures without delay, and that you will work to undo the unforeseen problems created by the previous commission policy of airport expansion without investigation into the harmful effects on the community.
With courageous action by our Commissioners, Martin County can now begin to move forward, taking positive steps to make our airport a smaller, non-commercial, community friendly neighbor.
Sincerely,
/s/
Lynne Pine, President,
for the WAAM Board of Directors
